My Lovely Grandmother

Chinese New Year!!

leave a comment »

It’s Day 4 of CNY! So once again, happy lunar new year to all!

On Day 1, MLG waited at home for all her children and grandchildren to visit her. (n collect ang pow from her haha) And so she cooked lunch for all and also just watched us gamble (what our family is best at doing). But obviously it’s nice to have your whole family around with u on such a special occasion! Then later that night, she went to her eldest son house for his CNY party. He stays in Sentosa! Nice house, nice food!

On Day 2, she stayed home for the earlier part of the day to wait for more people to come visit her. And later that night, she went to one of her daughter’s house for another CNY party. And at all these parties, she meets many of the office people and my uncles and aunties friends, whom she gets really warm greeting from!

What she probably misses the most, or would have made her CNY better, would be for CHARLYN YAP and also JENN LIM N JONATHAN LIM (3 of her granchildren who are currently overseas studying) to be here! Bcos they were also missed on the gambling table!

But nonetheless, MLG is happy as long the family is there with her! Hope everyone had a great CNY!

Cheers,
JARROD

Chinese New Year!

A very happy new year to one and all!

So yesterday, MLG called for a family reunion dinner, to be at her place. So all our uncles and aunties and family members who were around all came by for dinner! We had a really nice dinner, which was catered by Peach Garden. But that obviously wasn’t the best part of it. The exchange of jokes and songs were sort of the highlights for the night! And we could obviously tell that MLG had a great time, with most of her children and granchildren around :) What’s more impt than being able to have a great dinner and spend time with your beloved family!

Today, being the eve of CNY, MLG wants all her children to have reunion dinner with their own families. But cmon, we’re still one big family and we’ll be meeting tmr and over the next few days!

No pics of ytd dinner because we forgot to bring a camera! But we promise pics over the next for days for the first few days of CNY!

Have a great CNY break and all th best for the year ahead. Pics of CNY will be uploaded soon :)

Back from the US, spending time with MLG

leave a comment »

look at that smile on her face… even though my surprise failed, i still managed to creep behind her when I went to see her. All smiles for everyone! It’s good to be back. Weather is too hot here! Many changes in the house.. TVs have all changed and MLG showed me her bed side table. There was a picture of me and her on the side, she said, ‘wa pang ti yi dao, zha ki ki lai kwa le eh siong lor’ (i put it there so when i get up every morning i see your picture) That definitely sent some butterflies in my tummy! MLG cooked my favorite pig’s stomach soup and boy do i miss that bowl on innards! *slurps* Thinking about it makes me drool!

Yesterday, after running some errands I went over to her house and surprised her. She was folding incense papers so I just dragged her to her toilet to change and told her not to be lazy. Took her out for Tea at Ya Kun Kaya Toast! But before that, she wanted to drop by Geylang Serai to collect her ironing board so I took her and it started to pour! She had a mini umbrella in her bag so I told her to use that and I will just walk in the rain. She is one feisty lady, she kept nagging that I will fall sick etc and forced me to share with her. I didnt want to share with her because if I do, she will get drenched and MLG is a vainpot, she doesn’t like her hair getting wet! I gave in in the end and shared with her the umbrella but she didn’t know that i moved the umbrella to her side and the whole of my right shoulder was soaking but it didn’t matter, as long as MLG is not drenched!

This Saturday is going to be MLG’s 83rd Birthday so you can look forward to a pic-spam post!

It’s good to be back.

xoxo,
Charlyn

hi world.

grandma’s doing fine! card session at her house still takes place on fridays, laughter still fills the room, vulgarities are spewed out constantly (what’s new). we’ve had more visitors on fridays now that our cousins ryan and russell and teaching KAPAP at grandma’s field. KAPAP is a self-defense martial art.

one cool visitor we had the most recent friday was gladys! the bestest cook in our family. she is our parents’ cousin and she makes the best beef rendang -drooolz-!! on friday she came with a basket of snacks as seen from the uploaded picture. that night was great fun :)

grandma’s comment when she saw aunty gladys’ basket of cakes and stuff was HILARIOUS. i totally died laughing. she looked at aunty gladys and said, “le jia pa jin wu eng hor”, which means you very free hor. hahahaha. RUDE yeah? what a rudey grandma…hahaha but mlg doesn’t really eat sweet stuff so she didn’t have the cakes that night.

we had some guests from msia who stayed over for a few days as they had a wedding dinner to attend on saturday. heard our family had 2 tables to fill. wishing the couple, who are now our probably very very distant cousins, a blissful marriage!

well…tzy2 has returned from aussieland, and charn’s due to return next mth (dec)! jon won’t be coming back this december and we’re not sure if our gege zhiyi will be coming home from hk..would be great to have everyone back! although many of mlg’s grandchildren are gonna be flying all around during the dec sch hols…i’m sure mlg is extremely pleased when the family’s together!

peace out. to the coolest grandmother in the universe!!!

today, we showed MLG a recent video posted on youtube of a crazy woman on the mrt, scolding everyone in vulgarities and screaming at the top of her lungs in her now famous line – siao eh!

while watching it, MLG pointed at the screen and said, “ni cai siao eh!!!” (you’re the crazy one!)

Mid Autumn Festival

leave a comment »

6 days ago, the bulk of the family gathered at grandma’s house to spend time together and celebrate mooncake festival. we had an unexpected guest, my cousin byron who came back from melb for 2 wks. grandma, being a joke, bought 4 musical lanterns and made me walk the younger ones around the house. and the tune of the lantern i was carrying got stuck in my head….some cheena sounding tune. haha. anw after that we went down to eat mooncakes!! there were a million more joke skin mooncakes as compared to snow skin :c oh and pomelo tooo!!! my fav. haha we didnt have anything fanciful like drinking tea under the moon or sth, but nonetheless, we had a great time as a family :)

today, ahma brought up durian mooncakes (i rmb this being famously good from last year) for everyone to eat. and the aunts were asking, “ho jia bo?” (is it nice or not), and being the super cool and joker ahma, she said (while arranging her si sek cards), “um xi ho jia, xi JIN HO JIA!” in other words, it’s not just nice, it’s DAMN BLOODY NICE.

and i totally burst out laughing! i love mlg for making me laugh.
